Digi-Pack Research (Characteristics)

To make you own Digi-Pack, there are a few Characteristics that you must first consider. They are shown below:
1. The Digi-pack must a Front and Back Page, these pages are there for the designers to add artwork and the album cover. Most designers put the song names (and Occasionally Times) on the back page of the Digi-pack

2. Digi-pack must have a spine, the spine is there to hold the two adjacent pages together and it allows the Digi-pack to be opened and close with out any problems or difficulties.

3. The Digipacks must have some form of CD holder in the Digi-pack, for example it could be the bottom of a CD case, this is commonly used, or it could be two pieces of card where the CD is placed in between, like seen with Vinyles and other older CD holders, this is not used very often, but this is used quite often to hold the booklet that comes with the Digi-pack.
Left: This is the most commonly used CD holder. This looks like its from the bottom of a CD.
Right: This is the other type of CD holder that are used in some Digi-packs. Its 2 pieces of card that are cellotaped at the bottom, this stops the CD form slipping out of the bottom of the Digi-pack, on the other hand if the Digi-pack is turned on its side then the CD falls out and its damaged.

4. The Digi-pack must have a Barcode, so that the product can be scanned in and is easier on the sales.

5.  The Digi-pack must have the band name on, this helps the customers identify who made the Digi-pack. The Digi-pack most commonly also has the Bands Album name and the album cover or Art that corresponds with the Album name.

Digi-pack Research (Genre)

There is a large variety of music genres, where the artists use digipak to broadcast their music to their fans. I have found a wide array of genres that use Digi-packs from Pop to Heavy-Metal to Grunge.
Below are some images of Digi-packs by certain bands form different genres.

Above is a Soundgarden Digi-pack. This band is in the Grunge genre. This Digi-pack is a 4 panel pack, this means that it has a front and back cover, and also has 2 pages inside the pack. In this Digi-pack there is one CD with all of the tracks on and a small booklet, that has information about the artist and their history. It also contains information about the bands music. On the Back cover of the Digi-pack is a list of all the songs that are on the CD inside.
Above is a the Carcass Digi-pack, this band is a Death Metal/ Melodic Death Metal genre. This Pack is a 4 panel Digi-pack. This is the same as the Soundgarden Digi-pack as it has a front cover, a back cover and 2 pages in the centre, most bands use this 4 panel Digi-pack as it is cheaper to create, easy on the eye. This Digi-pack contains one CD and 1 Booklet. The Cd has all of the albums tracks on, and the booklet tell the audience about the band and their music.
This is a Olly Murs Digi-pack, this is a Digi-pack from the Pop Genre. This Digi-pack is another 4 panel, the same as the two above, it has 2 page in the centre and a Front and Back page, where the artist would put there images and drawings. The front page is where most commonly the Album Image would go and the Band Name, on the back page is where the list of songs would go with maybe a small image to attract the audiences attention. In this Digi-pack there is 1 CD and a small booklet where the artist would talk about themselves and their music, some times there is a small reference to the artists musical history, but this is not very often.
Above is the Muse Greatest Hits Digi-pack. This is the Alternative Rock/ New Progressive Rock genre. This is a 4 panel Digi-pack just the same as the others. With a front cover, a back cover and 2 pages in the centre. On the 2 centre pages there is most commonly a CD Holder, where the CD is kept, this can come in different forms, for example, the CD can be between 2 pieces of card, just like a vinyl album (shown below), also the CD can be in a normal case, just like in a Normal CD case just without the front piece of plastic.
Above is the Metallica Digi-pack, these are in the Thrash metal/ Speed Metal genre of Music. This Digi-pack is different to all of the others above, as it has 6 panels. It still has a front and back cover for the bands art work, but also has a extra page, which allows the band to add more artwork. And inside there is 3 pages which means that the CD can be spread out more, or another CD/ Booklet can be added. In this album there is 2 CD and one Booklet. The Layout has been changed for Metallica, for example they have got the albums songs on the back of the Digi-pack but have also got the song names written on the CDs so that can be easily referred to, when the customer is using the Digi-pack. The Booklet contains information about Metallica and their music, it also contains history of the band and its members.
Above is the Mad Max Digi-pack, this band is in the Hard Rock Genre. This Digi-Pack has 4 panels, just like some of the others shown above. It still has a Front and Back Cover, and also has the 2 pages inside. This band has copied the regular trend where they put a image behind the CD so when the CD is taken out of the Case the customer can see a Image of the band or maybe some of their artwork, this is commonly done with most Rock and Metal Digi-packs. Most bands do this so that when the audience take the CD out of the Digi-pack they can see the image and it will help them remember that band. This Digi-pack contains 1 Cd and 1 larger booklet. The booklet contains the information about the Band and their music, but this Booklet looks as if it contains more information that other booklets as it is larger than most of the booklets that other bands use.
This is the ACDC Back in Black Digi-pack, ACDC are in the Rock and Roll Genre music.

Research on Digi-Pack Design (Template)

There are lots of different structures for a Digi-pack, for example the basic one is 4 panes, which looks just like a normal CD case.

Above are two image of a 4 panel Digi-pack. On the left is a main template image, and on the right is a example of the Digi-pack after it is finished.
As you can see this Digi-pack can only fit 1 Disc in, but also has room for a booklet, that may contain the credits or the maybe the lyrics for the tracks on that album.
This Digi-pack has a front and back pane, and also a spine, these are the main characteristics of making a Digi-pack. It must have a front pane, back pane, and a spine or else it will not function correctly.

Above are two images of the 6 panel Digi-pack, this pack still has a front and a back panel, for the design to add images, but the Digi-pack has 2 spines as 2 joints are needed to create this Digi-pack. Also  the Digi-pack has a extra page, this allows the designer to do different things with the Digi-pack, for example on the right there is one design, with two discs in the Digi-pack, but there are other designs for example only 1 disc but two pages, the disc could be in the centre of the Digi-pack. Other designs are shown below.

As you can see there are multiples designs to a six panel Digi-pack. Some have 2 disc, some only have one but the disc changes place in the Digi-pack.

Prop List

This is the prop list that we prepared for all of the props that are going to be used in our music video, we have done this so that we have a checklist of what we have got and what we need to get.

Interviews

Mitchell Fielder
This is a Interview of Mitchell Fielder, asking him about his Musical tastes, and what he likes to see in music videos. We have asked him these questions so that we know what we could do with our music video, so that it is more suited to a wider array of fans. As we would no like to make a video that only 6 people like to watch, we would prefer to create a video that more people would like to watch.
