Audience Research

Audioslave is a American Rock Supergroup. The band members in Audioslave are Chris Cornell (Soundgardens Vocalist), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machines Guitarist), Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine Drums) and Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine Bass and Backing Vocals). I got an idea of the bands audience, as both of the bands that the in Audioslave are from the 90s grunge era, then the audience must also like 90s grunge. But Audioslave was made in 2001, and in 2000 Grunge was considered dead by the media, but on the other had there was a lot of post grunge bands out like Foo Fighters and Shinedown.

On the Audioslave wikipedia page, down the centre there is information about the band and how it all started, but on the right hand side there is a tab that show the other bands that are like Audioslave. These bands are shown in the image above. Bearing in mind that Rage against the Machine and Soundgarden are the two bands that created Audioslave, this shows that they have used the fans from the first two bands to advertise the Audioslave Band.

On the Audioslave Amazon page there is a tab that is labeled "Frequently Bought Together", it shows what the customers have purchased together with the first album they brought. This would boost the sales of all three of the albums, as they all show together and their is a small offer on them. 

Also on the Audioslave Amazon page, there is a tab that shows what the customer brought as well as a Audioslave album, and all of the albums that are shown in this tab are related to the Audioslave band or  the bands that formed Audioslave (Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine), also there is one solo album that can be seen, which is by Chris Cornell, who is the lead singer for Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Rational of Why we chose our song

There are many reasons as to why I chose this song for my music video, I thought it'd be a great track to use as it's a slow starting song which would be a great opportunity to use some overcranking and test my skill with overcranking. as the song progresses into the chorus, the song gets more upbeat, this would be another great opportunity to test my undercranking skills, so in my opinion this song is a great choice for me to incorporate a lot of the skills I have learnt.

Another reason why I chose this song would be because the lyrics would fit really well with something visual. The song lyrics itself talk about a man walking around, and seeing things that remind him of his past, so the idea I came up with would be to do a Narrative Performance Video.

Another aspect I had to think of was the resources available to me at the time which was another brilliant reason for choosing this song, it fits well with the resources available to me. The typical conventions of the genre (Post Grunge) is mostly wearing casual clothes with jeans (usually stonewashed) which isn't actually that hard to come by making it very easy to get the resources that I will need.the video below is another typical Post Grunge song, throughout the video you will see the type of clothing they're wearing is quite casual and simple.

As you can see they're not looking very flash, so costumes would be easy to produce.
Other resources I will need will be the instruments as it's a performance piece and a narrative piece. these would be easy to get, as the music department is available to me for making my video and I am a musician myself so a lot of the materials shouldn't be a problem.

Treatment for Music Video

Setting/Location Shots
We have some initial ideas of where the video could be set. The first idea we had ideas that it could be set in alley ways, where it is dark and gloomy, to show how dark the character feels at that time, then we were going to have another setting in a very lit location, to show that the character now feel better, and enlightened, as he finds things that reminds him of the past.

Colour Pallet
The colour pallet that will be used will be a light blue tint, to lighten the mood, and when he sees things that remind him of the past it will be a grey coloured background to show the audience that it is back in time to make it more obvious to the viewer.

These are two examples of the tint that will be over our footage, these will be over our footage to lighten the mood of the video as in some locations the video will be sad as the music is slow.

Brief Overview of narrative

The narrative of the video is that the character is walking around his home town, and seeing items that cause him to remember things about his past, such as a sofa where him and his girlfriend used to sit and talk, or a step outside a shop where him and friends used to hang out, and just places where he used to grow up and memories from his past.

Inkeeping the Genre

The genre of music is post grunge, it inkeeps with the genre quite well as all the actors in the music video will be wearing stone washed jeans, which is a key aspect in the post grunge/grunge genre. we're also closely following the conventions of a grunge music video by watching many videos in the same genre and getting ideas and tips for how we should go about doing ours.

Here is another Post grunge band called Soundgarden, they did songs such as "Fell on Black Days" and "Black Hole Sun".

Costumes and Props
The main costumes that will be used will be just general, basic outdoor clothes, but still following the 90's grunge era conventions such as stone washed jeans and basic T-Shirt just to make the bands image seem normal.

The images below show the kind of basic clothing that the actors during the video, will be wearing, this shows that they are just out on a normal day and are not doing something of any importance, because they are not wearing suits.
